The Abaco Cays are a string of islands on the Atlantic Ocean side of the Bahamas. Great Abaco Island, the hub of transportation and tourism, is situated just 30 minutes northeast of Nassau and only an hour from Miami by plane. Marsh Harbour, the largest population center on the island and the third largest town in the Bahamas has a new international terminal that offers daily direct flights to and from major U.S cities so accessibility to Abaco is better than ever.
THINGS TO KNOW
The Abacos stretch 120 miles long and consist of seven Cays – three of which are uninhabited. The Abacos offer world-class fishing and attract boating and sailing aficionados from around the world. The sky and surf all cooperate in unison to bring out the magnificent color of the ocean and glow of the white sandy beaches. Fishing, in all variations, snorkeling/diving, beach-combing and shell-collecting are some of the main attractions that you will find all over Great Abaco Island. The beaches are abundant and picturesque with soft, white sand on the Oceanside of the island and on the Sea of Abaco side of the Abaco Cays.

Here you will find snorkeling and scuba diving right off the beach. If you choose to rent a boat, which many visitors do, keep in mind that rental boats are used primarily to explore and travel between the seven Cays of Abaco and are not permitted in the Ocean. Exploring the uninhabited island beaches by boat is a treat for both families and couples and a local boat captain will be able to help you find the best spots based on your interests and time. For those land lovers, championship golf courses are available as well as tennis courts and luxurious spas at numerous resorts.
