Our Island Paradise
Nancy Restemayer remembers standing on a bare lot on the harbour island at Schooner Bay imagining the new home and life that would rise on that very spot. It felt like a dream that was about to come true. Now it has. Nancy and her husband Ron are celebrating almost three years in their new home. Having escaped the frigid winters of northern Minnesota, they now enjoy their out island South Abaco home “not quite full time” from November through May. We caught up with her recently to learn more about their Schooner Bay lifestyle—how it came to pass, and what’s still in store.
“We were house shopping in Nassau with a realtor who loved Schooner Bay and asked us if we had any interest in another island. And the journey began. We simply fell in love with Schooner Bay—just an overwhelming feeling of how right everything was. From location, to serenity, the beauty…I could go on and on. It’s just a hop, skip and a jump to Nassau, Ft. Lauderdale, and West Palm. Easy access for shopping, entertainment, etc., and so easy for friends and family to come visit. 30 minutes or so to and from those locations is really a plus. We did look at other locations, from Nassau to numerous other out islands, but nothing could compare to our piece of paradise at Schooner Bay.”
“There are so many new things to look forward to, from the new sports complex, to the new Sandpiper Inn, to new shops, pools, restaurants: There’s no end to the vision.”
“I want to say too, that we have never had so many genuine friends in our entire lives, from the local community to the new owners from all over the world. We do all feel like one big community. And the best part of my day? Sunrise and sunset with our friends the beautiful sea turtles down by our dock…After all, my house is named “Turtlvue.”
“What would I say to someone considering Schooner Bay?
